About Lesson

Extended Summary:
The elbow-knee escape is a foundational technique used to escape bottom mount by creating space, framing, and reestablishing guard. The movement begins by creating a solid frame with your arms against your opponent’s hips or knees, followed by a bridge and shrimping motion to slide one knee inside. Once your knee is in, you can recover to half guard or full guard. Key elements include good timing, framing without overextending, and coordinated hip movement. This escape is low-risk and ideal for smaller practitioners defending against heavy top pressure.

NOTE ⚠️ Be sure to watch your wrist position and fingers as framing with palms flat into your opponents hips could set you up for a nasty wrist lock if your opponent switches their hips. Also be cautious if using the hand to push the knee (not recommended) .Ask Coach if you are unclear on this.Â
