About Lesson

The omoplata is a shoulder lock submission that utilizes your legs to control your opponent’s arm and shoulder. This technique is primarily initiated from a guard position, making it both an effective attack and a way to counter attacks from the opponent. To execute the omoplata, you must first create an angle to get one leg over the opponent’s shoulder while securing their wrist with both hands. The movement requires hip mobility and a sense of timing to attach the leg around the opponent’s arm while simultaneously controlling their upper body. The finish occurs by extending the hips and lowering the opponent’s shoulder to apply pressure against the shoulder joint, potentially causing a tap. A key aspect of the omoplata is its versatility, as it can also be employed as a sweep, or as a  transition into other positions or submissions, making it a valuable technique in a your arsenal.
