About Lesson

Extended Summary:
The single leg takedown is one of the most fundamental techniques across all grappling arts. It begins with a level change and penetration step, allowing you to secure control of one of your opponent’s legs. Once the leg is captured, finishes include “running the pipe,” lifting and turning, or tripping the opponent’s base leg. Head placement is typically on the outside for leverage and safety. This technique teaches timing, posture control, and the ability to finish from multiple angles. Defenders often use sprawls, whizzers, or limp leg escapes, so learning counters is key to successful application.
